The Code Enforcement arm of the Building Division works with other City Departments and Outside Agencies to address a multitude of community issues, including:

  • Dilapidated housing
  • Work without benefit of permits
  • Contractor fraud
  • Tenant/landlord disputes
  • Zoning violations
  • Illegal occupancy
  • Illegal residential additions and structures

The primary goal of all code enforcement action is to obtain compliance with all applicable laws, codes, and ordinances adopted by the City of Pittsburg. This is accomplished through inspection and additional administrative tools such as a Correction Notice, Notice to Abate Nuisance, Administrative Citation, and Notice of Violation (Property Lien). In addition, members notify outside agencies when necessary; such as the State Franchise Tax Board, Contractors State License Board, OSHA, Child and Adult Protective Services, Animal Control and others.

Members enforce not only the current 2022 California Building Codes but also the 1997 Uniform Housing Code and the Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings.
