The City Attorney is the legal counsel of the City government under the direction of the City Council. She provides legal representation to City Council, City boards and commissions, and City staff. She is responsible for the efficient administration of the legal affairs of the City. She represents and advises the City Council and all City officers in matters of law. She attends meetings of the City Council, approves the form of contracts, prepares ordinances and resolutions, and makes recommendations. She retains and oversees outside counsel as necessary.

The City Attorney’s client is the City of Pittsburg, the municipal corporation. A city attorney is legally and ethically precluded from providing legal advice to members of the community
