TreeTypically, if the tree is located between the sidewalk and the curb, it is a City tree. If the tree is located on the resident’s side of the sidewalk, a measurement is made by City staff to determine if it is within the City’s planting easement. If the tree is within the easement, a tree trimming appointment will be scheduled. If the tree is outside the City’s easement, it would be the property owner’s responsibility to maintain.

To determine the maintenance responsibility of a street tree, please contact Public Works Supervisor, John Pebley, at (925) 252-4000. For additional information, please reference the City’s street tree ordinance, Chapter 12.32.
