Street_sweep_cProgram Responsibility
In the cities of Antioch, Pittsburg, and the unincorporated Bay Point area, street sweeping is the responsibility of the Delta Diablo Sanitation District (DDSD). DDSD collects money from ratepayers through property tax bill. DDSD does not perform the street sweeping itself. DDSD contracts with independent contractors or local agencies to perform street sweeping within the jurisdiction of it’s various member agencies. Within Pittsburg, the City’s Public Works Department is under contract with DDSD to provide street sweeping.

Operations and Maintenance Street Sweeping Map 2019
Residential streets are swept twice monthly during weekdays, when residents are typically at work and on-street parking is at a minimum. Commercial, industrial and business areas are swept weekly at night when heavy daytime traffic is not present, businesses are typically closed and on-street parking minimized. Place Large Piles of Leaves in Green Waste Tote, Not Street
City streets are swept year-around.  Street sweeping is only suspended during heavy rains.  Residents should not purposely place leaves from trees in either the gutter or the street. If the leaves are still dry when the street sweeper comes by, the piles of leaves will just be blown around by the street sweeper. Street sweepers are not meant to pick up large piles of leaves. If large piles of leaves are allowed to sit in the street during the winter they begin to decompose/rot. This causes them to become big, wet clumps that the street sweeper cannot effectively sweep up. Big piles of leaves in the street are often not collected and can be carried down the street, blocking storm drainage inlets and leading to localized flooding during heavy rains. The City of Pittsburg solid waste collection program allows residents to place lawn clippings and leaves in the green waste tote for collection on the curb. This is the proper way to dispose of leaves, rather than leaving them in the street.

how you can help make STREET SWEEPING more EFFECTIVE:

  • Relocate cars from curbside parking to your driveways or garages to minimize the number of cars on the streets on street sweeping days.

  • Remove portable basketball backboards to better increase the efficiency of street sweeping operations and provide a better service to the residents.
  • Do not place large piles of leaves in the street.  Collect the leaves and place them in your green waste tote to be picked up by Pittsburg Disposal as part of the City's green waste recycling program.
  • Remove garbage, recycling and green waste totes from the street as soon as possible.

A clean swept street means a more attractive neighborhood and less pollution down the storm drain.  Thank you for your assistance.
