PITTSBURG -- Contra Costa County is ready to buy back its citizens' guns during its annual buyback program this weekend.

The buyback will happen Saturday at Pittsburg City Hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event gives an option to people who no longer want to have a gun in their home.

The buyback is open to all residents of Contra Costa County. The county will give out Target gift cards as payment and will pay up to $350 for guns that are classified as assault weapons in California. Authorities say an assault weapon was used in the nightclub shooting.

Residents must show proof of their residency by showing a California driver's license or ID, or utility bill. Officers will not check for warrants.

The county will offer up to $200 for handguns and large-caliber rifles; $150 for shotguns, $100 for small-caliber rifles and $50 for non-operable guns. It reserves the right to limit the amount of funds any single individual can receive.
