Water and Sewer Utility Rate Increases

Post Date:12/28/2009

The City Council of the City of Pittsburg adopted a multi-year water and sewer rate increase on November 16, 2009.  Water and sewer utility rates were increased 4% per year for the next four years.  The increase equates to an increase of $2.40 per month for water for single family customers with an average water use (350 gallons per day) and an increase of $0.54 per month for sewer service.  The new rates are effective January 1, 2010.

The increases adopted by City Council meet the financial requirements of the Water and Sewer Enterprise Funds for annual operations and maintenance.  Additionally, the revenues generated will provide necessary capital improvement program funding and fund debt service obligations for the water and sewer enterprise funds.  These increases assist the City in meeting State of California public health and safety standards, meeting local public safety/fire suppression requirements, and rehabilitating and repairing existing water and sewer system infrastructure over the next four years.
