West Leland Road Pavement Improvements to Begin Late May

Pittsburg will address needed roadway repairs along the City’s main east-west thoroughfare beginning later this Spring.

Post Date:05/22/2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PITTSBURG, CA – The City of Pittsburg is continuing its efforts to improve the City’s most highly traveled roadways, with the latest project addressing two sections of West Leland Road. Beginning in June, stretches of the street from Bailey Road to Serrano Way, and Crestview Drive to Railroad Avenue will be completely repaved.

The planned improvements are the latest phase in the City’s commitment to implementation of a community-wide pavement management program. The project is being funded through a $2.4 million One Bay Area Grant, as well as a nearly $1.9 million match from City local funds via the Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account Gas Tax Fund (RMRA). Additional support is being provided through funding from Measure M, the City’s ½-cent sales tax approved by 81% of Pittsburg voters in 2016.

“My colleagues and I are always enthusiastic to commit the needed resources to make roadway improvements and further the City’s pavement management goals,” says Pittsburg Mayor Juan Antonio Banales. “Maintaining our infrastructure going forward, and making the necessary repairs to address deferred maintenance, are important to providing the quality-of-life Pittsburg residents deserve, while also promoting our economic development goals.”

The City introduced a robust pavement management program in the summer of 2023 following identification of multiple areas of deferred maintenance that had led to undesirable roadways that negatively impact commuters and businesses alike.

“This work on West Leland Road is a continuation of the exciting progress Pittsburg has made towards improving the condition of our roads,” said John Samuelson, Public Works Director/City Engineer for the City of Pittsburg. “We have heard from the City Council and the residents that repairing the City’s roads is a priority for this community and we will continue to focus on pavement rehabilitation until we achieve our goal of improving the pavement condition throughout the City.”

The improvements along West Leland Road and are expected to take 6-8 weeks. A majority of the work will be performed in between morning and evening commutes in an effort to minimize the impact to commuters.
