PITTSBURG — The City Council decided Thursday night to drop out of a regional transportation agency and use the developer fees it was contributing to it to pay for the road and transit projects it favors.
Pittsburg transportation projects have not been a priority for funding from the East Contra Costa Regional Fee and Financing Authority, according to city officials.
"Its priorities are skewed," Councilmember Nancy Parent said of the agency. "We're not going away, we're just disagreeing."
The council also agreed to pay for a study to determine what it will charge developers.
The new fee will most likely be lower than the amount charged by the agency, said City Manager Marc Grisham.
