Become a City Reads Literacy Sponsor
The Pittsburg Arts and Community Foundation has partnered with the Pittsburg Library to launch a city-wide summer reading program entitled City Reads, in which every member of the community is encouraged to read the same book (books vary by age group) over the summer. The purpose of the program is to rally the entire city around the library's summer reading program to promote active minds over the summer break, foster an appreciation of literature, increase the number of books read over the summer by our residents, and build a strong, cohesive, and literate community.

Please help us kick this program off to a strong start by becoming a City Reads Literacy Sponsor. Contribute to a a City Reads Poster ($50), Book Donation ($100-$500), Reading Zone ($300), Event ($500-$1000), Wrist Band Discount (special offers), or contribute to the program as a whole. Sponsors will receive recognition and publicity via our website and hand-outs, a certificate of appreciation, and recognition on the item sponsored. See the attached flyer for more information on the program and sponsorship.

Pittsburg High School Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
We are proud to announce the opening of the new Pittsburg High School for the 2010-11 school year. Beginning this August approximately 2,500 students from our city will begin the school year in a state of the art facility that has been designed to maximum student learning and safety. Our new high school will include a state of the auto technology program, a construction technology program and an information technology program.  An additional gym with new locker rooms have been added. In addition, we are beginning a multi-million dollar upgrade to our performing arts program which will, as the crown jewel, include a major renovation of the Creative Arts Building (CAB).

The campus will be closed during lunch time. In order to serve all of the students, 18 lunch stations will be open and students will eat lunch in the cafeteria and in a large outdoor quad.

Students will enjoy a greater variety of foods as the new kitchen will have equipment for bar-b-que and stir fry. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be on August 21st at 10:00 A.M.
