INTEREST ITEM: Black Diamond Ballet Theatre, a non-profit ballet company in East Contra Costa County, is excited to present the 2017 rendition of its full-length Nutcracker. Now in its sixth year, the production will feature Bay Area professional ballerinas including Antioch native, Terrin (McGee) Kelly as the Sugar Plum Fairy; Diablo Ballet and Pittsburg resident, Amanda Farris as the Snow Queen; Damon Mahoney as the Sugar Plum Cavalier; Antioch resident and CSULB Dance alumnus, Jessica Fleming; Pittsburg High School graduate, Myla Benjamin; and Pittsburg resident, Anisa Stanton, along with 40 student dancers and actors. This year’s production features many new and exciting changes to choreography, costumes, and storylines. This is a Nutcracker you do not want to miss!
“The beautiful thing about the performing arts and what makes it so unique is that each year our show changes and evolves. The 2017 production is a reflection of the influences and inspiration I have received from the dancers and current cast, resulting in new costumes and choreography in many of the scenes. With so many Nutcrackers to choose from, rest assured Black Diamond Ballet’s performance has been refreshed and different from previous years.” – Sharon Sobel Idul, Artistic Director
In addition to the regularly scheduled performances, Black Diamond Ballet Theatre is offering a special school field trip, one-hour preview version of the Nutcracker on Friday, Dec. 8th at 9:30am for approximately 1,000 private, public, and homeschooled elementary thru high school students. Space is still available, inquire immediately.
Artistic Director and choreographer, Sharon Sobel Idul, is a Pittsburg native and graduate of Pittsburg High School and CSULB Dance Department. She is currently the owner of Pittsburg Performing Arts Academy and dance teacher at Pittsburg High School.
